The Academy of Visual Arts, School of Creative Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University is proud to present the 17th AVA Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Visual Arts Graduation Show from June 1 to June 23, 2024. Over 130 graduating students will be presenting their honours project artworks at the AVA Kai Tak Campus, following the completion of their studies at the academy.

“Opus,” simply meaning art, is a celebration of all the distinct visual languages through various mediums that the graduates have cultivated over the years of their study. It is the coming together of all the unique styles and themes developed by each individual student, connected by having AVA at the core. The collection of works is carefully curated and on show at AVA’s Kai Tak campus, a former Royal Air Force Officers’ Mess, a Grade I historic building in Hong Kong, where history, contemporary arts, and time and space converge.

Through their studies, the graduates took every opportunity to construct and develop their own paths while in a shared space. Not only do their works display their individuality and independence, but they also demonstrate the coming together of a community. Inspiration exists as a simmering soup. If the graduates are the ingredients, AVA the bowl, then inspiration is the soup that surrounds them, taking in the unique flavours that each individual brings.

Opus is about the inherent interconnectedness between every student and the individuality that shines through. It is proof that oneness of the self and oneness of the group are not mutually exclusive, but rather parallels that build upon each other. Being inspired and inspiring are an eternal cycle devotedly cultivated by the community which the graduates belong to.

AVA Fest

AVA Fest will continue this year as part of the BA Grad Show’s newly established annual art festival. The Graduation Show 2024 Committee invites the public to experience the artistic atmosphere of the AVA. Enjoy an unforgettable experience integrating art and community.

At AVA Fest, various art stalls will showcase a wide range of unique art-related products, offering a platform for local artists to display and sell their remarkable creations. The festival will also host a screen-printing workshop where participants can try their hand at this special art medium, learning more about the creative process. AVA Fest will also feature the Art Solitaire Workshop “In Art We Say...”, inviting participants to experience collective art making. Join forces with other art lovers to create a collaborative painting themed around your favourite soup ingredients. Build connections and celebrate the joy of art as a shared experience.
