ArtAsiaPacific is looking for a Managing Editor to join the team.

Job Description

The managing editor works closely with the magazine's other editors, designer, and publisher in producing a bimonthly publication and daily website content. They are also involved in shaping ArtAsiaPacific's social-media platforms and other projects.

Responsibilities will include assigning and editing articles, writing stories for the print magazine and online, generating ideas for content, and overseeing the design and production of the magazine.

This is a full-time, Hong Kong-based position with potential to grow within the magazine's editorial team.

Qualifications

The successful applicant should have the following attributes:
– University degree in at least one of the following fields: art, art history or other humanities, or cultural studies.
– At least five to seven years of experience in an editorial role and/or in the arts industry
– Excellent written and spoken English (written and spoken Chinese a plus)
– Able to communicate complex concepts in approachable and engaging ways
– Detailed-oriented, with a careful eye and strong editing skills
– A strong researcher able to critically analyze and synthesize information from a wide range of sources
– Confident in conducting in-person conversations and interviews
– Excellent organization skills, able to oversee a small team and coordinate tasks according to priorities, manage multiple workflows, and troubleshoot problems
- Good communication skills, able to work with feedback and in collaboration with others
– Able to generate creative ideas for stories
- Able to write and edit quickly and efficiently
– Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
– Adept in social media and digital media

INTERNSHIPS

ArtAsiaPacific is accepting applications for 1) editorial and 2) design internships. Our internships usually last 3–4 months and are unpaid. While a full-time schedule is preferred, part-time arrangements can be discussed. Internships take place at our editorial office in Hong Kong; however, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, remote internships will also be considered. Internships for academic credit are also available.

Description

1) Editorial interns work with the editorial team to track arts events across the globe, write articles, and conduct fact checks. You will be encouraged to develop your skills in critical reading, research, and writing, and will become familiar with the arts and cultural landscape of the Asia Pacific.

2) Design interns work with the designer, editorial team, and artistic director to lay out articles and design collateral materials. Beside becoming familiar with editorial design, you will also be encouraged to produce and publish your own creative work on the website.

Qualifications

Applicants should be currently enrolled in undergraduate or post-graduate programs, or should be recent graduates.

1) For editorial internships, applicants with a journalism or art history/humanities background are preferred.

2) For design internships, applicants with a graphic-design background are preferred.

Applicants should be motivated and excited about contemporary art, magazines, and learning.
