Building Community Through Sports at POWWOW
By The Editors
Located in Hong Kong’s Wan Chai district, the Foo Tak Building was originally constructed in 1968 for residential and commercial purposes, but in 2003 the property owner decided to transform it into a haven for young arts professionals. Aside from artist studios, the building also accommodates a bookstore, and hubs for independent publications and philosophy discussion groups. The newest tenant is Powwow, the first fitness and game studio at Foo Tak. Founded by artist and Muay Thai lover Ho Sin Tung with art critic Evelyn Char and painter Stephanie Sin, Powwow encourages people from the cultural sector and beyond to exercise and play games such as Twister together. ArtAsiaPacific assistant editor Pamela Wong met the founders, tried out a few sports classes at Powwow, and learned new ways to have fun.
