Shanay Jhaveri to join The Met as Assistant Curator of South Asian Art

Shanay Jhaveri, who was appointed by New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art as its
New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art has appointed Shanay Jhaveri to assume the newly created position of assistant curator of South Asian Art, under the museum’s Department of Modern and Contemporary Art. Jhaveri will begin his role in 2016.
Jhaveri received his undergraduate education at Brown University in Rhode Island, USA, where he studied art semiotics and history of art. He subsequently completed his doctorate at the Royal College of Art in London, the dissertation for which addressed the topic of self-identity in South Asian art. His written work has been published widely in many periodicals including ArtAsiaPacific, Parkett and Afterall as well as the recent book title Western Artists and India: Creative Inspirations in Art and Design (Thames & Hudson and The Shoestring Publisher, 2013). His forthcoming publication, Chandigarh is in India, will also be released from The Shoestring Publisher. In addition to his publications, Jhaveri has curated exhibitions for commercial galleries, museums and festivals across the globe. He is currently also organizing the film program for the third edition of the Dhaka Art Summit, to take place in February 2016.
