Kolkata Centre for Creativity to Open November 2018

The Kolkata Centre for Creativity (KCC) has announced that it will be officially opening its doors to the public on November 21, 2018.
Located in Kolkata, the 6,500-square-meter KCC comprises eight distinct spaces, including a commercial gallery, Emami Art, which will host regular exhibition programs featuring local and international artists; the Museum of Contemporary Culture, dedicated to design objects and antiques; a conservation studio; library; event rooms; as well as a children’s corner and café.
Architect Pinakin Patel, who is also the Centre’s creative director, designed the building. Patel said about the project: “The creative community must move beyond the peripheries of life and assert themselves at the very core of contemporary culture and maybe, this time around, India’s Kolkata Centre of Creativity can offer 'essentialism' as an antidote to the current degenerative chaos around!” Richa Agarwal, executive director of the KCC and CEO of Emami Art added: “KCC will inform, stimulate and inspire audiences with a wide range of artistic activities as well as provide a resource base through programmes, workshops, libraries and activities across a wide span of creative disciplines. Emami Art, one of the largest and finest art spaces in India will be the flagship destination in KCC for artists, visitors and art collectors.”
Emami Art will open with an exhibition titled “School”—the first retrospective of celebrated Indian sculptor and designer Dashrath Patel. Curated by Pinaken Patel, the exhibition will include the artist’s line drawings, collages, ceramics and photographs from his seven-decade-long career.
