Art Basel announced on November 17 that the fair’s upcoming Hong Kong edition has been pushed from March 25–27, 2021, to May 2021 in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The fair will return to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), opening to VIPs on May 19 and publicly from May 21 to 23.

According to the press release, the decision “was taken in close consultation with gallerists, collectors, partners, and external experts, with the goal of ensuring that the fair will be attended by the largest possible number of collectors, curators, and arts professionals from Art Basel's global network, while protecting the health and safety of everyone concerned.”

More details on Art Basel Hong Kong (ABHK)’s line-up can be expected in early 2021. Art Central, which was originally scheduled to coincide with ABHK in a shared venue during March 23–26 has also altered its dates to May 20–23 according to its website.

Art Basel’s latest venture, a collaboration with Fine Art Asia, called Hong Kong Spotlight, is slated to commence its four-day run at the HKCEC on November 27. The presentation features 22 Hong Kong-based galleries that have appeared in previous editions of ABHK.

All three fairs in Art Basel’s portfolio went digital this year due to Covid-19. The online edition of Art Basel Miami will run from December 2 to 6, with the first two preview days open to VIPs only.
