Truong Cong Tung was born into a family with deep agricultural roots in Dak Lak, a province nestled in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, an area known for its rich biodiversity and contested sociopolitical histories. Soaked in the land’s nature and spirituality from an early age, Tung transfigures his memories and experiences in his homeland into his multimedia works that span from lacquer painting to the moving-image. It is Tung’s video-based works that we took as the departure point for our conversation about his practice that is embedded in visual spectrality, spiritual connectedness, and eco-critical perspectives.
