Brisbane: 10th Asia Pacific Triennial

10th Asia Pacific Triennial
Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane
First established in 1993, the Asia Pacific Triennial has long been recognized for its monumentality, proclivity for spectacle, and festival-like atmosphere, manifest through its large-scale installations, new commissions, and extensive events program. For its tenth edition (APT10), however, the Triennial turned a degree inward, onto a more intimate note. While the presentation’s scope remained wide—works by more than 150 artists from 30 countries across the Asia-Pacific region occupied the entirety of the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA), and much of the ground floor in the Queensland Art Gallery—the works felt physically smaller than in previous iterations, and their ambitions more modest.
