Biennale of Sydney Archive Stories #3
By The Editors
As part of her research for the 21st Biennale of Sydney, artistic director Mami Kataoka has initiated a number discussions with artists, curators and practitioners who have contributed to or witnessed the biennial’s evolution over its 45-year history. In Biennale Archive Stories #3, Kataoka had a conversation with art historians Charles Green and Terry Smith, who examine the event’s past, as well as the challenges it faces and the opportunities that have arisen. Kataoka unpacks her own research for the 21st edition, making a case for the relevance of the Biennale’s archive today, before Green and Smith take turns interpreting the importance of large-scale exhibitions as laboratories where contemporary art is honed and transformed.
