Even before its 100 day-run from June 18 to September 25, documenta fifteen landed at the center of Germany’s culture wars. The quinquennial’s artistic directors, the Indonesian collective ruangrupa, faced a climate of skepticism from nationalist politicians and rightwing news media as they shaped the event through their non-hierarchical decision-making and community-oriented practices.
